Privacy policy

Last updated 2 November 2026

Dassie is built to work without an account and without tracking you. This page says exactly what we collect, why, and how to get rid of it. It is written to meet the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect, and when

  • Nothing, by default. Browsing the map, opening charger details and planning routes needs no account and sends no personal information. Your location is used on your device to show distances and is only sent to our route service, without your identity, when you plan a trip.
  • If you sign in: your mobile number or the email address from Google or Apple, so you can save chargers and trips, report and set alerts. Sign-in is handled by Supabase, our hosting provider.
  • If you report or check in: the report, the charger, the time, and your account id. Reports are shown to other drivers without your name.
  • If you set an alert: a push-notification token for your device, so we can tell you when a plug is free.
  • If you contact us or join the waitlist: what you send us, including your email address.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell personal information, don’t run advertising, and don’t share your details with charging networks. Networks see aggregated demand (how many drivers, not who).

Who processes it

Supabase (database and sign-in, hosted in the EU), Google (route and place search; coordinates only), Expo (app builds and push notifications), and Open Charge Map (public charger data we import; nothing about you goes there).

How long we keep it

Account details until you delete your account. Reports indefinitely, anonymised once your account is gone. Alerts for the window you chose. Waitlist emails until we’ve launched and emailed you, or sooner if you ask.

Your rights

You can see, correct or delete your information at any time: delete your account in the app, or email hello@getdassie.co.za. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Cookies

The website sets no tracking cookies. The app stores your preferences, your saved items and a cache of charger data on your device so it works offline.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters to you, the app will tell you. The date above is the current version.
