Sound familiar?

“You drove 20 km to a charger and it was dead.”

With Dassie: Dassie shows the last time a driver confirmed it working, with the time, and goes grey when nobody has.

“Four network apps, four maps, none of them complete.”

With Dassie: Every public charger from every network on one map, listed the same way, with how to pay on each.

“Stage 4 tonight and no idea which sites still run.”

With Dassie: Solar, battery and generator backup on the pin, and a one-tap filter for sites that keep going.

“Joburg to Cape Town with your fingers crossed.”

With Dassie: A route planner that picks the stops for your car, works out charge time and cost, and warns you about long gaps.

How it works

1

Open the map

Every public charger in the country, from every network, with speed and plug type on the pin. No account needed.

2

Check before you drive

See whether it was working 12 minutes ago or hasn’t been checked today, what it costs, and whether it keeps running in load-shedding.

3

Tell the next driver

One tap when you arrive: working, busy, or not. Your report updates the map for everyone within seconds.

Honest status, always with a time.

A green pin is only green if someone confirmed it recently. Dassie shows exactly how recently, and goes grey rather than guessing. Pins differ by shape as well as colour, so the map works for everyone.

  • Reliability score from the last 30 days of driver reports.
  • Price in rand per kWh including VAT, or “price not shared” when a network doesn’t say.
  • “Tell me when a plug is free” alerts when a busy site opens up.

Plan the whole trip, not just the next plug.

Pick your car and where you’re going. Dassie places charging stops across every network, works out charge time and cost, warns you about long gaps between chargers, and re-routes if a planned stop goes down while you drive.

  • Real road routes with current traffic.
  • “Long gap ahead: 279 km. Leave with at least 87%.”
  • Start the trip in your maps app with the stops already in.

Why you can trust the map

Independent

Dassie is not owned by a charging network and never will be. No network can pay to rank higher or to hide a competitor.

Honest by design

A charger is only shown as working when a driver or the network confirmed it recently. Anything older than six hours is shown as unknown, not guessed.

Sourced and checked

Listings come from Open Charge Map, the networks’ own maps, site owners and drivers. Every listing records where it came from, so mistakes get fixed, not copied.

Yours stays yours

Browse, plan and navigate with no account. No ads, no selling your location. If you do sign in, you can delete everything with one email.

Built for load-shedding

Solar, battery and generator backup on the pin, and a one-tap filter for sites that keep sunning through stage 4.

Works with no signal

Saved chargers and your last route stay on your phone. On the N1 near Laingsburg, that matters.

Plain language

Standard, Fast and Ultra before kW numbers. Plug pictures before connector codes. Rand incl. VAT, always.

Questions

Is Dassie free?
Yes, and it stays free for drivers. No account is needed to use the map, charger details or the route planner. Signing in only adds saving, reporting and alerts.
Which networks are on the map?
All of them. Dassie lists every public charger we can find in South Africa, whether or not the network works with us, and never ranks one network above another.
Where does the status come from?
From drivers and, where networks share it, from the networks themselves. We always show how fresh a status is. Anything older than six hours is shown as unknown rather than guessed.
Who is behind Dassie?
A small, independent South African team of EV drivers who were tired of guessing. Dassie is not owned by any charging network or car brand.
Does it work in load-shedding?
Dassie marks sites with solar, battery or generator backup, and the Load-shedding filter shows only those. Saved chargers and your last route also work with no signal.
Can I pay for charging in Dassie?
Not yet. Each charger shows how to pay on that network and opens the network’s app. Paying inside Dassie comes later.
What happens with my data?
Nothing is collected while you browse. Your location is used on your phone to show nearby chargers and plan routes, and is not stored. Reports are linked to your account so they can be trusted, and you can ask for everything to be deleted at any time.
I run chargers. How do I get listed or fix my details?
Use the hosts page. Listing is free, for every network and every site owner.
